Getting Started With Your New StanaCard Account

Recently there seems to be a bit of confusion as to what exactly needs to be done to get started with your StanaCard account.

1. Make sure you have entered your numbers correctly.

A “Registered Number” is simply your phone number. The most common registered number is a personal cell phone number. You can also enter house numbers or friend’s numbers, but you cannot register work numbers. Please only enter a friend’s number if he will always be using your account, because we cannot remove registered numbers. You do not need to enter these like a number that you would call internationally, you just need to enter them like anyone in your current country would dial them. For example, for US numbers, you just need to enter the 3-digit area code, followed by the 7-digit number.

A “SmartDial Number” is a local number that we give you with your local area code. When you make a SmartDial, you will pick the area code that you want, and we will assign you a number. You will then enter the international number that you want to reach, making sure to enter it correctly. For more information on the correct way to enter a number, check out this helpful site: http://www.howtocallabroad.com/. After this, you will enter the name of the person whose number this is, and then you will have created a SmartDial.

You can add numerous SmartDial Numbers or Registered Numbers, and you can change any of the info in your account including your credit card, email, or password, which is why there is absolutely NO reason to create more than one account.

2. Now you need to purchase credit.

Once you have added the numbers successfully and correctly, you need to add credit to your account by clicking the blue “INCREASE YOUR CREDIT” button on the upper-left side of your main account page.

3. Time to make a call!

You now have numbers and credit…it’s time to make your first call. All you need to do to make your first call is take the phone with the number you have registered (cell or house phone) and dial any of the local SmartDial Numbers that you made. You must make this first call from your registered phone to a SmartDial Number.
Now that you have made this first call, your account is completely activated. You will now receive a PIN, which you can use to make calls from phones that you have not registered, or to make calls using a local access number to contacts that you did not make a SmartDial for. Your PIN code can be found on your account page, on the lower-left side, under the box which shows your Registered Numbers.

Rate Decrease to Afghanistan!

StanaCard has great news! We are decreasing our rates to Afghanistan by 14%.  The new rate is 21.49¢.

That’s almost 30% cheaper than Skype and -- unlike Skype and most calling cards -- we charge absolutely no connection fees.  You pay only for what you use.

The more you know…

Afghanistan literally means “Land of Afghans.”  But this could mean more than the people living in the modern state of Afghanistan, which was founded by Ahmad Shah Durrani in 1747.  There are other sorts of Afghans:

1.    The Afghan Hound, one of the oldest hound breeds. They acquired their unique features in the cold mountains of Afghanistan, where it was originally used to hunt hares and gazelles by coursing them
2.    An Afghan can also be referred to as a "throw". Afghans were first made in Afghanistan and commonly featured geometric designs with many holes in the pattern. They are hand-stitched or knitted.
3.     Afghan rugs are meant for covering large areas of floor. Many patterns and colors are used, but the traditional and most typical is that of the octagonal elephant's foot (Bukhara) print, often with a red background.

If you need to call to find an Afghan rug, want to know a pattern for knitting, or want an Afghan hound straight from the source, click here to find out how to do it for really cheap!

New York Marathon Winner!

Congratulations go out to Ethiopia and their own Gebre Gebremariam, who was the winner of the NYC Marathon, finishing first with an astounding time of 2:08:14.   Gebremariam, 26, is the first man to win with a marathon debut since 1980, meaning: most people who win the marathon do it a few times before taking home the gold.

The prize for winning the marathon is $130,000 and a title coveted by over 45,000 people. The New York Post quoted him to say, "New York is New York. It is so special for me, even though I just finished only, I'm so, so happy to be here to win it.  Nobody expected me to win, but even for me, for myself I cannot digest it to say to myself (that I won). But New York is special. The finish is good for me. I come from 10k, 5k, cross country, I win all of those…I come back here 100% to win next year."

Again, Congratulations Gebre!

Auto Recharge is off, but I'm still being charged!

Every day I make sure to have one on one time with support asking them what I should write about or if there is something unclear for the customers that I need to address.

This week the majority of the discussions were about Automatic Recharge. Let's first define how Automatic Recharge works:
1. Under Account Setup you have an option to enable or disable Automatic Recharge.
enable: Once your account falls below $1, your last valid credit card that was used is charged for the amount you selected.
disabled: you can choose this option if you do not want your credit card to be automatically charged
2. You can log into your account and change the amount you want to be charged.
3. Remember in order to change the credit card that will be charged during this process you need to first charge the new credit card on the website.  Once you have done this your new card will Automatically be charged each time your account falls below a $1

Recharge over the phone:
This option is not the same as Automatic Recharge
1. If you do not have automatic recharge enabled than once your credit reaches below a $1 you will be prompted to either recharge your account over the phone or hang up.
2. If you choose to recharge over the phone your account will recharge for the last valid amount charged on the website.  So this means if your last valid charge was for $150 dollars than your account will be charged that same amount.  You will not have the option to change the amount over the phone.

At this moment you cannot disable this option.
This information is important to know because if you allow someone to use your account than they will have the option to recharge the account without needing your permission and without you even knowing about.  It's important to talk to everyone on the account and let them know not to recharge if you do not want them to.

Remember: Enabling Automatic Recharge or recharging over the phone gives Stanacard authorization to charge your credit card for the amount selected.

We take your concerns very seriously and we can't help unless you tell us how.  Please always feel free to respond to this or any blog post we put up with questions concerns or just general comments.
