60,000 Free minutes to Colombia!

As many of you have heard, there has been severe flooding in Colombia these past few weeks, a problem which has affected millions of Colombian citizens.  This terrible natural disaster has left over 300,000 Colombians homeless, over 200 dead, and affected over 2 million in some way.  Schools, hospitals, and roads have been shut down, 6.8 billion square meters of crops have been ruined, and over 60% of the entire terrain in the country has been affected.

Because our customers are the most important part of our business, we have decided to reward our customers who call Colombia with 60,000 free minutes.  We are offering these minutes because we want to make sure that any of our customers who need to contact loved ones in Colombia during this disaster have the ability to do so without worrying about the cost.

Maria Jose Torres, the head of the U.N. Office for the Coordination for Humanitarian Affairs in Bogota recently stated that the relief and cleanup effort would cost upwards of $20 million, and president Santos has declared a 30-day state of emergency.

So far, the US has donated $1.3 million, Ecuador has rounded up 32 tons of food and supplies for victims, the Islamic Relief USA has sent containers of clothing valued at $787,000 and the Colombian Red Cross and other organizations have been doing all they can to help, but the relief effort is just getting started and could use all the help it could get.  To find out how you can help, please click here.
